As a not-for-profit fraternal benefit society, you already know that we use net proceeds to promote service in member communities across the United States. But like you, we also take an interest in the broader human community, giving personal resources to aid in times of overwhelming crisis. As an LCBA family we are sending what we can to The American Red Cross to participate in what will surely be an immense and protracted relief effort. If you haven't already, we ask you to consider doing the same. The best way to help the Haitian people is to make a cash contribution to an organization providing direct assistance. Cash allows relief professionals to procure exactly what is needed in a disaster situation and to ensure that donations are culturally, dietary, and environmentally appropriate. Cash donations do not use up other scarce resources, such as transportation, staff time or warehouse space. As needed, cash can also be transferred quickly to where needed, helping bolster the economy of the disaster-stricken region. So where should you donate? http://www.interaction.org/crisis-list/earthquake-haiti The US Department of State is also promoting a more immediate way of donating by texting "HAITI" to "90999".
Ten dollars ($10) will be given automatically to the American Red Cross, charged to your cell phone bill. |
