Road Scholar

Four $1,500 scholarships will be awarded each year via two separate lottery drawings - one drawing for two scholarships in March and one drawing for two scholarships in September. Applicants may attend any program accredited by Road Scholar®.

Overview

Road Scholar®, the not-for-profit leader in educational travel since 1975, offers 5,500 educational tours in all 50 states and 150 countries. Alongside local and renowned experts, experience in-depth and behind-the-scenes learning opportunities, from cultural tours and study cruises to walking, biking and more.

Guidelines

  • Only programs offered by Road Scholar® qualify for scholarship funding. Available programs are listed at www.roadscholar.org. Interested persons may also obtain a catalog by calling Road Scholar® at 1-800-454-5768.

  • The Scholarship shall only be applied toward items included in a Road Scholar® program.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must

    • be a benefit member or Agency member (“Member). The certificate supporting the Scholarship applicant’s eligibility must be active on the Scholarship application deadline;

    • be at least 50 years old on the date of the application deadline.

  • An extension of time to use the Scholarship may be approved, at the sole discretion of LCBA, based on a case-by-case circumstances provided the written extension request is received prior to the 6 month expiration.

  • An applicant must be eligible on the application deadline.

  • A person may only participate in one Road Scholar® Scholarship lottery in a 12 month period. A Scholarship recipient may not participate in another Road Scholar® Scholarship lottery until the recipient has provided the submission, as explained under “Other Rules”

Process

  • LCBA’s Road Scholar® Scholarship application is available online at www.lcbalife.org or may be
    obtained by calling LCBA at 1.800.234.5222

  • Mailed Scholarship applications shall be sent to PO Box 13005, Erie, PA 16514.

  • Applicant must complete the approved application form (available online here or by calling LCBA) and mail (or email) the application by:

    • February 28 for the March 15 drawing. Mailed applications must be postmarked February 28 or earlier, and received by March 7. Emailed applications shall be sent to scholarships@lcbalife.org and online applications must be submitted by 1 1:59:59(ET) on February 28.

    • August 31 for the September 15 drawing. Mailed applications must be postmarked August 31 or earlier, and received by September 7. Emailed applications shall be sent to scholarships@lcbalife.org and online applications must be submitted by 11:59:59(ET) on August 31.

  • Each applicant who submits an online Scholarship application will receive one additional lottery entry.

  • An applicant will receive an additional lottery entry for each current benefit member who is a policyholder themselves provided the certificate is active on the deadline for submissions.

  • LCBA will screen Scholarship applications to determine if the eligibility requirements have been met.

  • Scholarship recipients will be notified by the end of the month in which the Scholarship is awarded. Names of Scholarship recipients will be published in LCBA’s Direction magazine.

  • LCBA will send Scholarship payments, not to exceed $1,500 directly to Road Scholar®. Multiple Road Scholar® programs may be selected to utilize the entire Scholarship amount.

    Other Rules

  • Scholarships will be awarded by random drawing. Selections are final.

  • There are no refunds or direct cash payments to the Scholarship winner for any balance not applied to the program(s) selected. Multiple Road Scholar® programs may be selected to utilize the entire scholarship amount.

  • LCBA reserves the right to modify, suspend or terminate this program without prior notice.

  • Within 60 days after attendance at the selected Road Scholar® program, scholarship winners are required to submit a summary of their experience at their Road Scholar® event along with digital pictures showing their participation in the event. This summary may be used in Direction to promote future participation in the Road Scholar Program®. Failure to submit this summary may affect future eligibility.

  • Each person may only be awarded one Scholarship in a 1 year period.
